License

This License Agreement (“Agreement”) is a legally binding contract between you (an individual or legal entity, “Licensee”) and Fontcraft, the developer and provider of professional font software solutions including Fontcraft Editor, Fontcraft Manager, and Fontcraft Handwriter (collectively, the “Software”). By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the Software, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by all terms, conditions, and limitations set forth in this Agreement. If you do not agree to any part of these terms, you are prohibited from using, downloading, or installing the Software and must immediately discontinue any such actions.

1. License Grant

Subject to Your compliance with the terms and conditions of this Agreement, Fontcraft grants You a non-exclusive, non-transferable, perpetual license to use the Software in accordance with the scope defined by the edition of the Software You have purchased (e.g., Home, Standard, Professional, Premium). This license is granted for the sole purpose of creating, editing, managing, or generating fonts for personal or commercial use, as permitted by the specific edition of the Software.

1.1 License Scope by Product Edition

- Fontcraft Editor: 
        

  - Home Edition: Licensed for personal, non-commercial use only. Permits use on one (1) computer (Windows or macOS) by a single user.

  - Standard Edition: Licensed for semi-professional and small business use. Permits use on up to two (2) computers by a single user, for both personal and commercial font creation and editing.

  - Professional Edition: Licensed for commercial use by type foundries, design agencies, and professional designers. Permits use on up to three (3) computers by a single user, including full commercial rights to fonts created using the Software.

- Fontcraft Manager:
        

  - Standard Edition: Licensed for personal use. Permits management of personal font collections on one (1) Windows computer.

  - Professional Edition: Licensed for commercial use. Permits management of large font collections on up to two (2) Windows computers, including bulk management and team sharing features.

- Fontcraft Handwriter:
        

  - Standard Edition: Licensed for personal use. Permits creation of handwriting fonts for personal projects on one (1) computer (Windows or macOS).

  - Premium Edition: Licensed for commercial use. Permits creation of handwriting fonts for commercial projects, including full character sets and multi-style support, on up to two (2) computers.

All licenses are perpetual (one-time purchase, no recurring fees) and include free minor updates and basic support during the product lifecycle. Major version updates may require an additional upgrade fee, as specified in our Pricing page.

2. Intellectual Property Rights

Fontcraft retains all intellectual property rights, title, and ownership to the Software, including but not limited to all source code, algorithms, design elements, user interfaces, documentation, and any modifications, updates, or derivatives of the Software. The Software is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws and international treaties. This Agreement does not transfer any ownership rights to You, and You acquire only the limited license granted herein.

Fonts created using the Software (the “User-Created Fonts”) shall be owned by You, provided that such fonts do not infringe on any third-party intellectual property rights. You are solely responsible for ensuring that Your User-Created Fonts comply with all applicable laws and do not violate the rights of any third party. Fontcraft shall not be liable for any claims arising from Your use or distribution of User-Created Fonts.

Fontcraft trademarks, logos, and product names (including “Fontcraft”) are the property of Fontcraft and may not be used without prior written permission from Fontcraft.

3. Permitted Uses

You may use the Software in accordance with the following permitted uses, consistent with the license scope of your purchased edition:

- Install and run the Software on the number of computers permitted by your edition.

- Create, edit, modify, and export fonts (User-Created Fonts) for personal or commercial use, as permitted by your edition.

- Manage, organize, preview, and activate font collections using Fontcraft Manager, in compliance with the license terms.

- Generate handwriting fonts using Fontcraft Handwriter, in accordance with the tool’s intended functionality.

- Make one (1) backup copy of the Software for archival purposes only, provided that the backup copy is not used on any computer other than the ones permitted by your license.

- Use the Software for internal business purposes, if you have purchased a commercial edition.

4. Restrictions and Prohibited Uses

You agree not to engage in any of the following prohibited activities, which shall constitute a breach of this Agreement:

- Copy, reproduce, distribute, or sublicense the Software to any third party, including but not limited to sharing license keys, installing the Software on unauthorized computers, or distributing the Software through file-sharing platforms.

- Modify, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract the source code of the Software, or create any derivative works of the Software without prior written permission from Fontcraft.

- Use the Software for any illegal or unethical purpose, including but not limited to creating fonts that infringe on third-party copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights.

- Use the Software to create fonts for the purpose of counterfeiting, piracy, or any other activity that violates applicable laws or regulations.

- Remove, alter, or obscure any copyright notices, trademarks, or other proprietary markings on the Software or its documentation.

- Use the Software in a way that exceeds the scope of your license (e.g., using a Home Edition for commercial purposes, or installing the Software on more computers than permitted).

- Embed the Software or its components into any other software, application, or product without prior written permission from Fontcraft.

- Sell, rent, lease, or transfer the Software or your license to any third party, unless explicitly permitted by Fontcraft in writing.

5. License Termination

This Agreement and the license granted herein shall remain in effect until terminated. Fontcraft may terminate this Agreement immediately if You breach any term or condition of this Agreement, including but not limited to unauthorized use, piracy, or violation of intellectual property rights. Upon termination, You must immediately cease all use of the Software, uninstall the Software from all computers, and destroy all copies of the Software and its documentation (including backup copies).

You may terminate this Agreement at any time by uninstalling the Software and destroying all copies of the Software and its documentation. Termination of this Agreement shall not affect any rights or obligations that have accrued prior to termination, including but not limited to payment obligations and intellectual property rights.

6. Limited Warranty

Fontcraft warrants that the Software will perform substantially in accordance with the documentation provided for a period of 90 days from the date of purchase. This warranty applies only to the original purchaser of the Software and is non-transferable. Fontcraft’s sole obligation under this warranty is to either repair the Software, replace the Software, or refund the purchase price, at Fontcraft’s sole discretion, if the Software is found to be defective within the warranty period.

This warranty does not cover defects caused by improper use, modification, accident, or third-party software. Fontcraft disclaims all other warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Some jurisdictions may not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so the above exclusion may not apply to You.

7. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall Fontcraft be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages (including but not limited to lost profits, business interruption, or loss of data) arising out of the use or inability to use the Software, even if Fontcraft has been advised of the possibility of such damages. Fontcraft’s total liability under this Agreement shall not exceed the purchase price paid by You for the Software.

This limitation of liability shall apply regardless of the cause of action, whether in contract, tort, strict liability, or otherwise. Some jurisdictions may not allow the limitation of liability for certain damages, so the above limitation may not apply to You.

8. Support and Updates

Fontcraft provides free minor updates (bug fixes, compatibility improvements) for the Software during the product lifecycle. Major version updates (new features, significant enhancements) may be available for an additional upgrade fee. Basic customer support is included with all license purchases, providing assistance with installation, basic functionality, and troubleshooting. Premium support may be available for an additional fee, as specified in our Support page.

9. Governing Law

This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction where Fontcraft is registered, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any disputes arising out of this Agreement shall be resolved through arbitration in accordance with the rules of the relevant arbitration association, or through litigation in the courts of the aforementioned jurisdiction.

10. General Provisions

- Entire Agreement: This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between You and Fontcraft regarding the Software and supersedes all prior or contemporaneous agreements, representations, or understandings, whether written or oral.

- Amendments: Fontcraft may amend this Agreement from time to time by posting the updated terms on our website. Your continued use of the Software after the effective date of the updated Agreement constitutes your acceptance of the amended terms.

- Severability: If any term or condition of this Agreement is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining terms and conditions shall remain in full force and effect.

- Assignment: You may not assign this Agreement or the license granted herein without prior written permission from Fontcraft. Fontcraft may assign this Agreement to any third party without your consent.
